About the Alexander TechniqueThe fast and challenging demands of modern life can be so absorbing that we forget the most important thing: ourselves, and how to maintain a relaxed and healthy approach to all our daily activities and concerns. Very young children have naturally good posture, coordination and flexibility, but as we grow up we accumulate tension habits - perhaps through stress or injury - which can over time have a negative influence on our health, contributing to or causing pain, stiffness and ill health. Learning to use the Technique will improve your posture and enable you to move with more freedom, co-ordination and confidence. It improves breathing and relaxation, clarity of thought, and your ability to handle stress. The Technique works in a very practical way: learning it equips you with the skills to recognise how you are functioning at any given time, and how to release unnecessary tension. It helps to improve how you do any task, so that you can do it with more efficiency and enjoyment. Many famous actors, musicians and sports people have used the Alexander Technique as part of their preparation or training: recent examples include Derek Jacobi, Paul Newman, John Cleese, William Hurt, Sting, Jamie Lee Curtis, Joanna Lumley, Keanu Reeves and many more. The people who have learned the Alexander Technique with me report many different benefits. You can read what some of them have said.
